Conversion Rate Calculator
Calculate the percentage of clicks that become conversions and use it to understand how effectively traffic turns into the action you care about.
Conversion rate is one of the most useful diagnostic metrics in digital marketing, but only when the numerator and denominator describe the same stage of the funnel and the same measurement period.
What is conversion rate?
Conversion rate measures the proportion of a defined audience that completes a defined action. In this calculator, it is the percentage of clicks that become conversions.
Example: 500 conversions from 10,000 clicks gives a conversion rate of 5%.
Define the funnel stage before comparing rates
A website may have several legitimate conversion rates: impression-to-click, click-to-lead, lead-to-sale, session-to-purchase or visitor-to-sign-up. They answer different questions. A 20% lead-to-sale rate cannot be compared directly with a 3% click-to-purchase rate.
This calculator deliberately uses clicks as the denominator because it is designed to sit within the paid-media funnel. For lead-generation analysis, the full Campaign Performance Calculator also connects click-to-lead and lead-to-sale rates.
How conversion rate affects CPA
If click costs stay constant, a stronger conversion rate generally lowers cost per acquisition because more of the traffic you already paid for completes the target action.
At a £1 CPC, moving from a 2% conversion rate to 4% changes the implied CPA from £50 to £25, assuming the same conversion definition and traffic quality.
What can change conversion rate?
Audience intent, creative-message match, offer strength, landing-page relevance, price, trust, page speed, device mix, checkout friction and measurement changes can all move the number. Treat a change in conversion rate as a clue to investigate, not a diagnosis by itself.
Connect conversion rate to cost and revenue
The Campaign Performance Calculator shows how conversion rate interacts with CPC, CPA, ROAS, revenue and contribution across the same campaign.
Conversion rate calculator FAQs
What counts as a conversion?
Use the action that matches the objective you are analysing: for example a purchase, completed lead form, trial sign-up or booked demo. Keep the definition consistent across comparisons.
Is a higher conversion rate always better?
Not automatically. A higher rate can coincide with lower order values, poorer lead quality or a narrower audience. Commercial value matters as well as conversion frequency.
Should I use clicks, sessions or users as the denominator?
Use the denominator that matches your analytical question and data source. This calculator uses clicks so it aligns with campaign metrics such as CPC and CPA.
